Mamata Points Finger at BJP, BSF in Orchestrated Murshidabad Clashes

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday described the recent communal unrest in Murshidabad as a calculated move, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), certain central agencies, and a segment of the Border Security Force (BSF) of instigating the violence by enabling illegal border crossings from Bangladesh.

Addressing a gathering of Imams, Banerjee claimed that the central government permitted unauthorized entries despite the unstable situation in Bangladesh, alleging that the BSF and specific agencies contributed to the turmoil in West Bengal. She called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to block the controversial Waqf Amendment Act and to rein in Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

“I urge the Prime Minister to monitor Amit Shah, whose actions are damaging the nation for political gain,” Banerjee stated.

She referenced reports suggesting involvement of cross-border elements in the Murshidabad disturbances, questioning the BSF’s role in border security. “The state doesn’t control the international border. The central government must be held accountable,” she said.

Banerjee announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of three individuals killed in the clashes and instructed the state chief secretary to investigate the BSF’s actions, claiming the force’s gunfire caused one death. “I will uncover who the BSF paid to stir violence in border areas,” she added.

Accusing BJP-affiliated outsiders of entering West Bengal to provoke unrest, Banerjee said, “Why were BJP troublemakers from outside allowed to spark chaos and then escape? They must be held responsible. Their aim is to polarize Hindus and Muslims for their hollow agenda. Don’t divide the nation; unite it.”
