Mumbai: Schools and colleges in Mumbai and Thane remained closed following a red alert for heavy rainfall issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As heavy rain continued to lash Mumbai over the past two to three days, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced on Saturday that all schools and colleges in the city would remain closed for the afternoon session in view of the IMD’s red alert and to ensure the safety of students.
The BMC said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure amid the forecast of intense rainfall. With heavy showers continuing across several parts of the city, the civic body also urged residents to step out only if absolutely necessary.
