‘Khashaba’ Teaser Out: Nagraj Manjule’s Marathi Biopic on Olympic Legend Khashaba Jadhav to Release on January 1, 2027

Mumbai: Jio Studios and Aatpat Productions have unveiled the first teaser of Nagraj Manjule’s upcoming Marathi biographical sports drama Khashaba, while confirming that the film will hit theatres worldwide on January 1, 2027. The film tells the inspiring story of Olympic wrestler Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav, who became independent India’s first individual Olympic medallist.
The teaser takes audiences into the traditional wrestling arenas of Maharashtra before tracing Jadhav’s journey to the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where he claimed a historic bronze medal for India. Set in the early years of independent India, the film highlights his perseverance, resilience and sporting achievements.
Khashaba marks Nagraj Manjule’s return to Marathi cinema after his acclaimed films Fandry and the blockbuster Sairat. Since then, the filmmaker has directed the Hindi sports drama Jhund, starring Amitabh Bachchan, and most recently helmed the streaming series Matka King, led by Vijay Varma.
The biographical drama is jointly produced by Jio Studios and Aatpat Productions. Jio Studios has previously backed projects including the Dhurandhar franchise and the Marathi blockbuster Raja Shivaji.
The makers have not yet revealed the actor playing Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav. The ensemble cast includes Jitendra Joshi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Girish Kulkarni, Vaibhav Mangale, Chhaya Kadam and Gargee Kulkarni
The film features music by the composer duo Ajay-Atul. It is produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Gargee Kulkarni, with Nagraj Manjule directing the project.
Khashaba is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on January 1, 2027, bringing the story of one of India’s most celebrated sporting trailblazers to audiences at the start of the new year.
