Mumbai and several other parts of Maharashtra are bracing for intense monsoon activity as the seasonal rains have picked up momentum once again. Authorities have issued weather warnings for multiple districts, signaling the likelihood of significant downpours in the coming days.
The forecast indicates that heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusts of wind reaching 40 to 50 kilometers per hour could occur over the next 24 to 48 hours in many areas. Yellow alerts have been placed for 23 districts, while five districts are under an orange alert, highlighting the potential for more severe conditions.
In Mumbai, Thane, and surrounding regions, rainfall intensified from late Monday night, leading to water accumulation in low-lying spots. The outlook suggests intermittent spells of moderate to heavy showers will continue across the Mumbai metropolitan area in the days ahead.
Orange Alert Districts
Thane, Mumbai, Palghar, Pune ghat areas, and Ratnagiri are among those facing the higher-risk orange alert.
The Konkan region, including Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts, is expected to see continued vigorous rainfall with thunder. Ghat regions are also likely to experience substantial precipitation, raising concerns about swollen rivers and streams.
Elsewhere, light to moderate rain with isolated heavy spells is anticipated in parts of western Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. Thunderstorms and gusty winds may accompany these showers.
