‘What a Loser’: Biden Mocks Trump’s White House Projects in Sharpest Attack Yet

Former US President Joe Biden, speaking at the Maryland Democratic Party’s “Fight Back & Win” Gala on Saturday night, called Donald Trump a “loser,” targeting the president’s renovation projects, specifically the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Biden framed Trump as a “narcissistic loser” by zeroing in on what he characterised as self-enrichment and ego-driven “vanity projects.” He said the reflecting pool reflects the rotten core of the administration.
“It’s not just his vanity projects, tearing down the East Wing of the White House, making room for his ballroom, putting his name on the Kennedy Centre, building an arch in his own honour, even hiring his own pool guy to fix the reflecting pool. Woah! What a loser,” Biden told the audience at the gala, held at a Maryland casino.
He argued that Trump has generated billions of dollars since returning to the White House, alleging that making money off the presidency is a primary driver for his administration. “What makes me angry is that Trump wants to give taxpayers’ money, your money, to the January 6th insurrectionists. That’s what he wants to do,” Biden told the crowd. “These people don’t deserve to be compensated. They deserve to be put in jail for a long, long, long time.”
Post-presidency troubles of Joe Biden
Biden’s 10-minute speech ranks among his sharpest attacks on the US president since leaving office in 2025. He continues to deal with a complicated post-presidency, with many in his party remaining frustrated over his handling of the 2024 election. He is also navigating a mix of personal, legal, and political family dynamics. He still remains defiant about his pardon of son Hunter Biden in the latter’s gun and tax convictions, a decision that has damaged much of his political legacy.

His son Hunter, meanwhile, has launched a highly active media tour of his own, appearing on California Governor Gavin Newsom’s podcast and sitting for a two-hour interview with right-wing podcaster Candace Owens. Hunter’s appearance on Newsom’s podcast fuelled brief internet speculation about a 2028 run after he joked he would consider it, but only as Newsom’s running mate — a remark he later confirmed on social media was made in jest.
Further, his wife Jill Biden has been on a promotional tour for her new White House memoir, “View From the East Wing,” offering her own take on the 2024 election controversy between Biden and Harris, which has aggravated many Democrats who do not see this as good strategy for reopening that chapter. Biden himself is fighting a separate legal battle to protect tape recordings he made with a ghostwriter back in 2017. A federal judge has ruled against him, saying public interest outweighs his privacy rights. The content of the tapes, tied to a special counsel probe into his handling of classified documents, could cause further damage to Biden and hand ammunition to conservative groups targeting Democrats.
