Operation Sindoor : Government Releases Names Of 6 Fallen Defence Personnel

New Delhi : The government has for the first time officially revealed the names of five Indian Army soldiers and one Indian Air Force personnel who were killed during Operation Sindoor. The operation was India’s military response against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last year.

The names of the six personnel have been added to the Roll of Honour on the National War Memorial website. Their names have also been engraved on Wall 3D at the National War Memorial in New Delhi under the 2025 section, which honours defence personnel who gave their lives while serving the country.

Adding their names to the National War Memorial is the first official confirmation by the government that Indian armed forces suffered casualties during Operation Sindoor in May 2025. Until now, the government had not officially released the names of the soldiers who were killed during the four-day military conflict with Pakistan, even though there were reports and speculation about casualties.

The publication of their names in the Roll of Honour is being seen as the government’s first official acknowledgement of the military personnel who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor.

The six defence personnel are:

Subedar Major Pawan Kumar (Indian Army)
Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Vir Chakra (Indian Army)
Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar (Indian Army)
Aviation Technician Mood Muralinaik (Indian Army)
Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh (Indian Army)
Sergeant Surendra Kumar, Vayu Medal (Indian Air Force)
