Meet Lionel Messi’s 100-Year-Old Fan and a Newborn Supporter Barely One Year Old!

Arlington (USA): A footballer like Lionel Messi comes along only once in several decades. And if he is possibly playing his final World Cup, who wouldn’t want to watch him live from the stadium? On Monday night against Austria, the World Cup-winning Argentina captain delivered another extraordinary performance. Among the thousands of spectators who enjoyed the spectacle at Arlington Stadium was a remarkable 100-year-old female fan.

Whether someone is 100 years old or just one year old, Messi’s fan base spans every generation. One family even brought along their barely one-year-old child to watch the match. When Messi scored, the parents lifted the toddler into the air to celebrate the goal. Among the thousands inside the stadium and millions watching on television, the little child became a major attraction.

A 100-year-old football enthusiast was also present to witness the match. Both she and the toddler became eyewitnesses to Messi’s record-breaking goals. The elderly fan likely told her friends and relatives with pride after the game that she had witnessed one of Messi’s historic performances in person. Similarly, when the child grows up, he will be able to say that he watched the match in which Messi scored his 17th and 18th World Cup goals and set a new world record.

Messi scored twice on Monday to guide Argentina to an exciting 2-0 victory over Austria. His first goal of the match saw him surpass Germany’s Miroslav Klose’s decades-old World Cup record of 16 goals, making him the highest individual goal-scorer in World Cup history. He then added his 18th goal to further strengthen the record.

This is Messi’s record sixth World Cup appearance. Before reaching the knockout stage, Argentina have scored five goals in two matches at this tournament, and all five have come from Messi.

Why Is the 100-Year-Old Woman Such a Big Messi Fan?

The 100-year-old supporter present at Arlington Stadium also attracted plenty of attention. She was seen holding a banner that read, “100-Year-Old Messi Fan.”

She had previously attended matches featuring Argentine legends Alfredo Di Stefano and Diego Maradona. According to her, “Messi’s style and artistry of scoring goals are extraordinary. The ease with which he sends the ball into the net makes football feel like music to me.”

Meanwhile, the parents of the 10-12-month-old child repeatedly lifted him into the air, delighting television cameramen and spectators alike. The toddler was also dressed in an Argentina jersey, adding to the festive atmosphere in the stadium.
