Scorching Heat Persists in Delhi as Monsoon Gains Momentum Across India

On June 23, 2026, the national capital continued to experience warm conditions, with temperatures remaining close to seasonal norms. Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 38.4 degrees Celsius the previous day, which was marginally below average. The reading at the city’s base station in Safdarjung stood at 38.4 degrees Celsius, a slight decrease of 0.5 degrees from the day before.

Meteorological authorities have forecast minimum and maximum temperatures in Delhi today in the range of 25 to 40 degrees Celsius, with partly cloudy skies likely over parts of the city. Air quality in the capital deteriorated to the ‘poor’ category, with the 24-hour average Air Quality Index reaching 228 by late afternoon.

Meanwhile, several regions across the country are witnessing significant weather shifts due to the advancing southwest monsoon. In Arunachal Pradesh, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and heavy rainfall are expected to impact isolated areas in multiple districts, including West Kameng, East Kameng, Papum Pare, West Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit, and Namsai on Tuesday. Similar thunderstorm activity with lightning is also likely in other districts such as East Siang, Upper Siang, Lower Siang, Dibang Valley, Anjaw, Changlang, Tirap, and Longding. Unsettled weather conditions are anticipated to continue in many parts of the state into Wednesday.

In Maharashtra, the southwest monsoon has made further progress into several areas and is expected to advance into additional regions, including Mumbai, over the coming 48 hours. The monsoon has already covered more parts of the central Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, and Telangana, while extending into remaining areas of Karnataka and parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and Bihar. Conditions remain favourable for increased rainfall activity across these regions until at least June 26.

These developments highlight the varied weather patterns currently affecting different parts of India, with the capital enduring heat while the monsoon brings relief and rain to other states. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated on local forecasts and take necessary precautions against heavy downpours and thunderstorms.
