Amit Shah to Visit Raigad Fort, Meet Mahayuti Leaders Amid Maharashtra Political Buzz

Pune: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit the historic Raigad Fort today to honor the memory of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his 345th death anniversary. His visit also coincides with the 100th anniversary of the renovation of Shivaji Maharaj’s mausoleum.

Shah reached Pune on Friday ahead of the commemorative event. Preparations are in full swing at Raigad Fort, where he will pay tribute to the legendary Maratha ruler, who passed away at the fort in April 1680 due to health-related issues.

This visit comes at a politically sensitive time in Maharashtra, as debates surrounding the legacies of Aurangzeb and Shivaji Maharaj continue to stir controversy. During his trip, Shah is also expected to meet key figures from the Mahayuti alliance to deliberate on the appointment of Guardian Ministers for the districts of Raigad and Nashik.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar revealed on Friday that Shah may join state Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sunil Tatkare for lunch at his residence. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis are also likely to be present at the meeting.

According to Pawar, the conversation may include the recent appointments of BJP leader Girish Mahajan and NCP’s Aditi Tatkare as Guardian Ministers of Nashik and Raigad, respectively—an issue that has reportedly sparked internal friction among the Shiv Sena, NCP, and BJP factions.

Pawar emphasized that alliance leaders will raise these concerns during their discussions with Shah.

Later in the day, Shah is scheduled to participate in the 75th Foundation Day celebration of the Gujarati weekly Chitralekha in Vile Parle, Mumbai.
