PoJK Unrest Deepens As Pakistan Intensifies Crackdown On JAAC Protesters

Rawalakot: Tensions have sharply escalated in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) after authorities launched a major crackdown on activists linked to the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), triggering violent confrontations, arrests and communication restrictions across the region.

According to reports by Firstpost and other media agencies, clashes between protesters and security personnel intensified in several parts of PoJK, particularly in Rawalakot and Muzaffarabad, as demonstrations against governance issues and economic hardships gathered momentum.

Deadly Clashes Reported in Rawalakot

As reported by Pakistan Today, at least seven civilians were killed during clashes in Rawalakot while several others sustained injuries. Officials also confirmed the deaths of law enforcement personnel during earlier confrontations linked to the ongoing unrest.

Authorities stated that security operations were launched following the banning of the Joint Awami Action Committee under anti-terror laws. The administration claimed the organisation was involved in activities that could disturb public order, allegations strongly denied by JAAC leaders.

Internet and Mobile Services Suspended

Reports cited by Firstpost said internet and mobile communication services were suspended in multiple areas amid fears of escalating protests. The communication blackout reportedly affected residents across Muzaffarabad and nearby districts.

According to local reports, restrictions were imposed as demonstrations and shutdown calls gained support in several towns. Protesters alleged that the measures were aimed at suppressing dissent and preventing mobilisation.

JAAC Leadership Rejects Allegations

JAAC leaders, including Shaukat Nawaz Mir, rejected accusations made by the authorities and insisted their movement was focused on public welfare and basic rights. The group has been demanding reforms related to governance, economic relief and political representation in the region.

Media reports indicated that despite arrests and police raids, protest organisers vowed to continue demonstrations and long marches planned across PoJK.

Growing Unrest Across PoJK

The unrest has spread to multiple districts, with markets shut and transport services disrupted in several areas. Demonstrations have largely centred around demands for economic justice, reduction of elite privileges and improved public facilities.

According to reports from agencies and regional media outlets, the crackdown has further intensified anger among local residents, with protesters accusing the administration of using force to silence dissent.

The situation remains tense as security forces continue operations while protest groups prepare for further demonstrations across the region.
