Delhi: The tragic fire accident blazed the peripherals of a bed-and-breakfast hotel, Flourish Stays, in Delhi, and 21 people died from the outbreak of the fire from the basement of the building. Since then, the Delhi Police have been tirelessly investigating the cause and the culprits who might have triggered the accident, and several suspects have been detained by the police for questioning. Among them was the hotel cook Keshav Negi, aged 55, who is a worker at the lodge; he was held under the accusation of being involved in the mishap.
Initial findings lead to some negligence on the part of the man, which may have played a role in the engulfment. “One more accused has been arrested, the cook of the hotel. Investigation has revealed negligence on his part as a possible cause of the fire. A few others have also been detained and are being questioned,” the Delhi Police said. By re-enacting the whole incident, scenarios reveal that the police can detain more suspects. The police earlier booked and arrested Luvkesh Bajaj, the owner of the place, and are also verifying the operational failures at the building’s end. Reportedly, the small-time lodge was permitted only six rooms, but in reality, the hotel had 28, more than four times the actual legal strength. The officials also indicated inconsistencies in the fire safety system; at the time of the incident, the fire rescuers were forced to break open the entry points as it only had one narrow entry gate, and most of the victims fell prey to suffocation rather than burn injuries.

Another layer was added when the hotel owner’s accountant, Jay Mishra, fled after the misfortune, and attempts are being made by the authorities to find him. The forensics team collected several damaged wires and electronic equipment to determine whether they played a role in the fire due to a short circuit or a case like that. As the police expand their investigation, the detained staff might lead to fruitful information regarding what caused the fire.
