Venezuela Acting President Delcy Rodriguez To Visit India From June 3–7, Focus On Energy And Trade Ties

New Delhi : Venezuela’s Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, is scheduled to visit India from June 3 to June 7, marking an important step in strengthening ties between the two countries. The visit comes at a time when India has been increasing its crude oil imports from Venezuela and expanding engagement with the South American nation. 

Meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi

During her stay, Rodriguez is expected to hold discussions with Narendra Modi. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the talks will cover the full spectrum of India-Venezuela relations and explore opportunities for greater cooperation in several sectors. 

Focus on Energy, Trade and Investment

The discussions are likely to focus on areas including energy, trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation and renewable energy. Officials from both countries are expected to examine ways to enhance collaboration and strengthen economic partnerships. 

Growing Energy Partnership

The visit assumes significance as India continues efforts to diversify its energy sources. Recent reports indicate that India has increased purchases of Venezuelan crude oil, making the country one of Venezuela’s major oil customers. The growing energy relationship is expected to be a key topic during Rodriguez’s meetings in New Delhi. 

Previous Engagements with India

Rodriguez has previously visited India on multiple occasions. In February 2025, she attended India Energy Week as Venezuela’s oil minister and led a delegation focused on energy cooperation. She also visited New Delhi in 2024, holding discussions with senior Indian leaders and officials. 

Significance of the Visit

The upcoming visit is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between India and Venezuela. With both countries seeking to expand cooperation across strategic sectors, the high-level engagement could open new avenues for collaboration in energy, trade and investment. ANI reported that the visit reflects the growing importance of bilateral ties and the shared interest in enhancing cooperation across multiple domains.
