Mumbai: Mumbai welcomed a refreshing change in weather on Sunday, May 31, as pre monsoon showers swept across several parts of the city and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), offering much-needed relief from the intense heat and humidity that had gripped the region over the past few weeks.
Areas including Vile Parle, Chembur, Kurla, Wadala, Thane, Navi Mumbai and other parts of the MMR witnessed light to moderate rainfall during the morning hours. The showers brought down temperatures significantly, creating pleasant conditions after days of scorching weather that saw mercury levels hovering around 34-36 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecast the possibility of rain and thunderstorms across Mumbai and its neighbouring districts, including Thane, Raigad and Palghar. Sunday’s rainfall is being seen as a sign of increasing pre monsoon activity along the Konkan coast as the southwest monsoon gradually advances towards Maharashtra.
Cloudy skies, cool breezes and intermittent showers were reported across multiple locations, with many residents stepping out to enjoy the welcome weather shift. Traffic movement remained largely normal, although a few areas experienced brief waterlogging and slower vehicular movement during heavier spells.

Weather experts have indicated that Mumbai may continue to witness partly cloudy skies, rain showers and occasional thunderstorms over the coming days. The rainfall has also helped ease the discomfort caused by high humidity and persistent heat, bringing relief to millions across the city and surrounding regions.
With the monsoon season drawing closer, Sunday’s showers have raised hopes for an early and smooth transition into the rainy season, ending a prolonged spell of hot and humid conditions in the financial capital.
