Indian-origin Woman From Gujarat Shot Dead by Masked Man at US Supermarket; CCTV Captures Attack

Meghnaben Patel, an Indian woman from Gujarat who had worked at a supermarket in Virginia, United States, for ten years, was shot and killed by a masked gunman on May 23, 2026. CCTV footage of the attack has since circulated on social media.

The footage shows a man wearing camouflage or animal-print pants, a hooded jacket, a face mask, and gloves entering the store. He approached the counter where Patel was standing, spoke briefly with her, then pulled a handgun from his pocket and fired twice at near point-blank range. Patel collapsed behind the counter. The attacker then lunged over the counter, fired a third shot, and fled the scene.
