Amit Shah Says Infiltration Remains Major Challenge, Panel Formed To Study Demographic Changes
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that infiltration continues to remain a major challenge for the country which is why as promised by PM Modi in his Independence Day Speech last year, he announced the formation of a committee to study what he described as “unnatural demographic changes” in certain regions. He reportedly stated that illegal infiltration has had an impact on several areas and requires coordinated administrative and security responses.
Panel Formed To Examine Demographic Changes
According to Amit Shah’s X post, this demographic committee will be chaired by Retired Justice Prakash Prabhakar Naolekar along with Census Commissioner and the rest of the members including Shri Durga Shankar Mishra (Retd IAS), Shri Balaji Srivastava (Retd IPS), and Dr. Shamika Ravi. In this committee, the Joint Secretary (Foreigners-I) and Ministry of Home Affairs will serve as the Member Secretary. The panel has reportedly been tasked with examining the situation and suggesting possible measures to address related concerns. The committee will also analyse demographic patterns and assess issues connected to border infiltration and population shifts.

Focus On Border Security And Monitoring
The Home Minister also emphasised the importance of strengthening border surveillance and enhancing coordination among security agencies. Officials are expected to continue focusing on measures related to fencing, monitoring systems and intelligence-sharing to curb infiltration activities. The report noted that the Centre has been increasing attention on border management infrastructure and operational preparedness in sensitive areas.
Government Reviewing Security Preparedness
Amit Shah’s remarks came as part of broader discussions on national security and internal administration. Authorities are reportedly assessing current mechanisms and identifying areas where additional monitoring and enforcement may be required.
Senior officials and security agencies are expected to work closely with the newly formed panel as it studies the issue and prepares its recommendations.
Centre Continues Emphasis On National Security
The government has consistently highlighted border management and infiltration control as major components of its national security strategy. The formation of the panel is being viewed as part of ongoing efforts to review demographic trends and strengthen administrative oversight in sensitive regions.
The Times of India reported that further action and recommendations are likely after the committee completes its assessment.
