Vladimir Putin to Visit New Delhi for BRICS Summit on September 12-13, Confirms Kremlin

New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin will travel to New Delhi for the BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13, the Kremlin confirmed on Tuesday.

The visit will mark Putin’s second trip to India within a year. He last visited New Delhi in December 2025 for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, where he held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on expanding bilateral cooperation. That visit was also significant as it was Putin’s first to India since the Russia-Ukraine war began in 2022, and before that, he had last visited New Delhi in 2021.

India and Russia maintain an annual summit mechanism under which the Prime Minister and the Russian President review the full range of bilateral ties. Twenty-three such summits have been held so far, alternating between the two countries.

Putin’s September visit follows a recent trip to New Delhi by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for a BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting on May 14 and 15, chaired by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

The New Delhi BRICS Summit is expected to focus on global security challenges, economic cooperation, and the strengthening of a multipolar world order.
