Deadly Encounter in Fatehpur: Two Suspects Wounded, Arrested in Triple Murder Case

A violent confrontation unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district on Wednesday, leaving two triple murder suspects injured and in custody after a shootout with police in the Khaga area. Fatehpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Dhawal Jaiswal reported that Piyush Singh, 36, and Sajjan Singh, 38, opened fire on officers at a checkpoint while traveling in a black Scorpio SUV. The police returned fire, wounding both men in the legs and apprehending them. This brings the total number of arrests to four in a case that has gripped the region, following the earlier detentions of Suresh Kumar, 55, and his son Bhupinder Singh, 32, on Tuesday. Initial confusion among senior officials had incorrectly listed Piyush among those arrested earlier, a mistake later corrected to confirm his capture occurred only after the Wednesday encounter.

The arrests stem from a deadly incident in Akhri village on Tuesday, where Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) district president Pappu Singh, 50, his son Abhay Singh, 22, and his brother Pinku Singh, 45, were fatally shot. Inspector General of Police (IG) Prem Kumar Gautam detailed how the killings followed a heated dispute sparked by former village head Suresh Kumar, alias Munnu, asking Pappu to move his tractor blocking the road. The situation spiraled out of control when Suresh’s sons and aides joined the fray, firing indiscriminately and leaving three dead. To hunt down additional suspects named in the FIR, including Gyan Singh and Vivek, authorities have mobilized eight police teams led by senior officers, while a heavy security presence, including the Provincial Armed Constabulary, has been deployed to maintain order in the shaken village.

As the investigation unfolds, police are probing two primary motives: a deep-seated political rivalry and frustration over the cancellation of a ration shop once allotted to Suresh Kumar. IG Gautam assured transparency in the process, stating that the victims’ autopsies would be conducted by a panel of three senior doctors and fully videographed. With tensions still high in Akhri village, law enforcement continues its efforts to bring all involved to justice, as the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic outburst of violence.
