Noida Dowry Case : Woman Dies By Suicide After Falling From Roof

Amid a rising number of dowry harassment cases, another shocking incident has been reported from Greater Noida. Deepika Nagar, who married Ritick Tanwar in December 2024, died after allegedly falling from the roof of her in-laws’ home. According to the police, the incident took place late Sunday night in the Jalpura area of Greater Noida, under the jurisdiction of the Ecotech-III police station.

The devastated family of the victim has alleged that physical abuse by her in-laws ultimately led to her murder. They claimed she was being mentally tormented and pressured for additional dowry. Wailing outside the mortuary in Noida, Deepika’s grief-stricken father, Sanjay Nagar, said, “Unhe Fortuner gaadi chahiye thi, 51 lakh rupaye chaiye the (They wanted a Fortuner car and ₹51 lakh).” The father claimed that trouble began just a couple of months into the marriage. Explaining why he did not approach the police sooner, he added, “We tried very hard to save her,” hoping the matter could be resolved internally. The police have detained the husband and his father in connection with the case.

Shailendra Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Central Noida, stated: “Last night, information was received that a woman— died after jumping from a rooftop. Upon receiving this information, the police immediately reached the scene. Necessary legal formalities are being conducted, and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination.”

The distraught father maintained that the in-laws remained unsatisfied despite receiving ₹11 lakh in cash, ₹50 lakh worth of gold, furniture, and a Scorpio car during the wedding. On Sunday, hours before the tragedy, Deepika reportedly called her family in tears, saying she was being tortured over dowry demands. Sanjay rushed to his daughter’s home with some relatives that evening to resolve the matter. However, just hours after he left, the family was informed that Deepika had fallen from the roof and was critically injured.

An infuriated Sanjay refused to believe it was a case of suicide, accusing the in-laws of murder. He claimed that Deepika had been stabbed with a sharp object before being thrown off the terrace to stage the crime as an accident.

Bruises were found on the victim’s body, which the family cites as evidence of foul play. While the investigation is ongoing, this tragic event underscores how the outlawed practice of dowry persists across the nation, leaving another family to mourn an unimaginable loss.
