UP Storm Havoc: 111 Dead After Rain, Lightning And Dust Storms Hit 26 Districts

Prayagraj: At least 111 people lost their lives while 72 others sustained injuries after severe storms, heavy rainfall, hailstorms and lightning struck multiple districts of Uttar Pradesh, causing massive destruction across the state. According to the Relief Commissioner’s office, the extreme weather event impacted 26 districts on May 13 and also resulted in the deaths of 170 livestock animals and damage to 227 houses.

Prayagraj, Bhadohi and Fatehpur were among the worst-affected districts, reporting a high number of casualties and extensive property damage. Strong winds uprooted trees and electric poles, while several houses collapsed due to the intensity of the storm. Rescue teams and local authorities worked through the debris to assist trapped residents and restore normalcy in the affected areas.

As reported by PTI and carried by multiple media outlets including ABP Live, the weather conditions changed suddenly, with dust storms and dark clouds sweeping across large parts of the state. Videos circulating on television and social media showed roads blocked by fallen trees and damaged structures. In Bareilly, a man was reportedly lifted into the air by strong winds while clinging to a tin structure, though he survived with injuries.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences over the loss of lives and directed officials to ensure immediate relief measures. Authorities were instructed to distribute financial assistance to affected families within 24 hours and conduct surveys to assess the overall damage caused by the disaster.
