Noida Woman’s Veg Biryani Order Turns Non-Veg Nightmare, Sparks Arrest

In a startling incident in Noida, a woman’s routine food order took an unexpected turn, leading to a police investigation and an arrest. Chhaya Sharma, a resident of Greater Noida, ordered a vegetarian biryani through the popular delivery app Swiggy during the Hindu festival of Navratri, a time when many adhere to strict vegetarian diets. Instead, she received a non-vegetarian version from Lucknowi Kabab Paratha, a restaurant in Amrapali Leisure Valley. Sharma, who identifies as a staunch vegetarian, shared her distress in a tearful video that quickly gained traction online.

In the widely circulated clip, Sharma explained that she had taken a few bites before realizing the dish contained meat. “I am a pure vegetarian woman, and they’ve sent me this non-veg biryani during Navratri,” she said in Hindi, her voice breaking. “This is intentional. How can they send non-veg when I ordered veg biryani?”. The video, which amassed millions of views across platforms like Instagram and X, ignited a firestorm of reactions, with some netizens expressing outrage while others questioned whether the mix-up warranted such a drastic response.

The fallout was swift. On April 7, 2025, Noida police acted decisively, arresting the owner of Lucknowi Kabab Paratha, identified by Mohammed Zubair of Alt News as Rahul Rajvanshi. Restaurant operator arrested for sending non-veg biryani after an online order for veg biryani.” Authorities from Bisrakh police station noted that further steps would follow a thorough investigation.

The incident has sparked a broader debate online, with opinions split between those decrying the alleged insensitivity and others puzzled by the arrest over what might have been an honest mistake. As the investigation unfolds, this case continues to highlight the complexities of food delivery mishaps and their repercussions in a culturally diverse society.
