Mumbai Weather Alert: IMD Warns Of Hot & Humid Conditions, Thane May Touch 40°C

Mumbai: Mumbai and nearby regions continued to experience intense heat and humidity on Saturday morning, with temperatures already touching 31°C by 9 am. According to a report by Free Press Journal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad, warning residents about persistent hot and humid weather conditions until May 10.
The weather department stated that daytime temperatures are expected to remain unusually high across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Forecasts by AccuWeather indicate that Mumbai may witness temperatures rising up to 38°C, while Thane could record nearly 40°C during the day. Navi Mumbai is also expected to experience severe heat, with temperatures likely to touch 37°C.
The rising temperatures have added to discomfort levels across the city, especially due to increasing humidity. Reports suggest that the combination of heat and moisture in the air is making outdoor conditions exhausting for residents. Meteorologists have advised people to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.
Earlier this week, the IMD had extended its yellow alert for Mumbai and the Konkan belt after noticing changing climatic conditions and rising minimum temperatures. Weather experts have also pointed out that shifting wind patterns and delayed sea breeze activity are contributing to the sharp rise in temperatures across Mumbai and neighbouring districts.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious as hot weather conditions are expected to continue over the weekend.
