Confusion Over Vijay’s Oath As TVK Submits Only 116 Signatures To Governor, Read In Details

Chennai : TVK chief Vijay is set to become the next Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, though the official swearing-in schedule is yet to be announced as Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar is awaiting crucial letters of support from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), sources at Lok Bhavan told media.

Vijay met the Governor on Friday evening and submitted signatures of support from 116 MLAs, while informing him that formal letters from the VCK and IUML would follow shortly. The Governor’s office is expected to announce the oath-taking ceremony once the remaining support letters are received.

Notably, the VCK, CPI and CPI(M) were previously allies of the DMK. The IUML, another former DMK ally which has two MLAs, extended support to Vijay after his meeting with the Governor. With backing from the VCK, Left parties and IUML, the TVK, which has 107 MLAs of its own, has crossed the majority mark with support from 120 legislators in the 234-member Assembly.

TVK earlier secured backing from Congress’s five legislators, along with two MLAs each from CPI and CPI(M), and two from VCK, ensuring a clear path to power. The CPI(M) also submitted an unconditional letter of support, calling the move necessary to ensure stability and respect the electoral mandate. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party MP Rahul Gandhi are likely to attend Vijay’s oath-taking ceremony.
