Hostage Crisis in German Town of Sinzig After Armed Bank Robbery, Police Deploy Heavy Units

A hostage situation is underway in the western German town of Sinzig after armed robbers seized multiple people inside a bank on Friday, prompting a large-scale police response, AFP reported, citing police.
In an official statement, police said there were believed to be “several hostage-takers and hostages inside the bank.” Among those reportedly being held is the driver of a cash transport vehicle, indicating the incident may be connected to a cash delivery operation at the time of the robbery.
Law enforcement rapidly sealed off the surrounding area and deployed heavily armed units to the scene. Images published by German newspaper Bild showed officers in helmets and ballistic vests, carrying rifles, positioned along a cobblestone street outside the bank as the standoff continued to develop.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of suspects involved or the weapons they may be carrying. The situation remains fluid as police continue to secure the area and manage the unfolding incident.
Sinzig is a small town situated just west of the Rhine River, roughly midway between Bonn and Koblenz in western Germany. Emergency operations are ongoing, the area is under tight security, and the public has been advised to stay away.
Further details are awaited.
