Mumbai Police Detain Man Over Terror Threat Call to Taj Hotel

Mumbai police have detained a man following a hoax threat call warning of a terror attack at two iconic south Mumbai hotels, the Taj and the Trident.

The calls were received on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, prompting an immediate security response at the properties. The caller claimed that a terror attack would target both locations. Security personnel were swiftly deployed, and officers carried out thorough checks inside and around the hotels to ensure public safety.

Acting on the complaints, Mumbai police traced the origin of the calls to the Sion area in the city. The individual was promptly taken into custody and is currently being questioned to determine the motive behind the threatening calls. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the detained person at this stage.

Officials confirmed that the situation was quickly brought under control without any untoward incident or disruption to normal operations at the hotels. No casualties or damage were reported.

The Taj and Trident hotels, located in the heart of south Mumbai, are prominent landmarks that gained global attention during the 26/11 terror attacks in 2008. Such threat calls, even if proven to be hoaxes, continue to trigger heightened vigilance from law enforcement agencies due to the sensitive history of these sites.

Investigations are ongoing to fully understand the circumstances and intent of the caller. Police have urged the public to remain alert but reassured that the matter is being handled professionally.

This incident underscores the continued challenges faced by Mumbai police in managing security threats to high-profile locations while distinguishing between genuine alerts and prank calls that can strain resources and cause unnecessary alarm.
