UP Tragedy: Teen Falls To Death While Shooting Reel On Water Tank, IAF Rescues Two Others

Siddharthnagar: A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district when a group of teenagers climbed a water tank to film a social media reel, leading to a fatal accident. According to India Today, the mishap occurred after the structure’s access ladder gave way, causing several of them to fall.
Officials stated that five teenagers had climbed the elevated tank for the purpose of recording a video. During the attempt, the staircase or ladder attached to the tank collapsed midway, resulting in three of them falling from a significant height. One teenager lost his life in the incident, while two others sustained injuries and were rushed for medical treatment.
The remaining two teenagers were left stranded at the top of the structure, unable to descend due to the damaged access route. The situation prompted an urgent rescue effort involving local authorities, the fire department, and the Indian Air Force. Given the difficult terrain and limited accessibility to the site, conventional rescue methods proved challenging.
On a request from state government authorities, an IAF Mi 17 V5 of Central Air Command (CAC) was deployed to rescue two stranded children, who were stuck on top of a water tank in Sidharth Nagar in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. In response, an Indian Air Force helicopter was deployed to carry out the rescue operation. The stranded teenagers were eventually airlifted to safety in a coordinated effort between state authorities and defence personnel. Officials highlighted that the mission was executed swiftly following a request from the state government, ensuring the safe evacuation of those trapped atop the tank.
The incident underscores the risks associated with attempting dangerous activities for social media content. While the rescue operation brought relief for the survivors, the loss of life has raised concerns about safety awareness and supervision, particularly among young individuals engaging in such activities.
