The Election Commission (EC) has ordered fresh polling at 15 booths across two assembly constituencies in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district 11 polling stations in 142-Magrahat Paschim and 4 in 143-Diamond Harbour. The repoll is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from 7 AM to 6 PM.
Voting at these booths originally took place on April 29 during the second phase of the West Bengal assembly election. The EC has since declared those polls void under Section 58(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
The decision was based on reports submitted by Returning Officers and Observers from the affected constituencies, according to the EC’s order. PTI has learnt that a report from one additional constituency is still awaited.
Following the second phase of polling, the EC had received demands for repolling across 77 booths in four assembly constituencies in South 24 Parganas district. With 15 booths now confirmed for fresh voting, it remains unclear whether repolling will be extended to the remaining 62 booths.
