Lucknow: Kolkata (155/7 in 20 overs) defeated hosts Lucknow (155/8 in 20 overs) in a thrilling encounter here on Sunday, winning in the first Super Over after the match ended in a tie. With both teams finishing on identical scores, the match went into a Super Over.
In the Super Over, Lucknow lost the wickets of Pooran and Markram within three balls bowled by Sunil Narine and managed just one run. Kolkata were set a target of two runs to win, which Rinku Singh chased down with a boundary off the very first ball from Prince Yadav, sealing a dramatic victory.

Mumbai and Lucknow now occupy the bottom two spots (ninth and tenth respectively). On Saturday, unbeaten Punjab had chased down a record 265 runs in T20 cricket, but on Sunday, Lucknow failed to chase even a modest target of 156, dragging the match into a Super Over where their poor performance resulted in a sixth defeat. Captain Rishabh Pant (42 off 38 balls, 1 six, 4 fours) once again delivered a below-par performance.

Kolkata, registering their second win, saw their bowlers dominate as Lucknow’s batting failed to put up a fight. Markram scored 31 runs, while Badoni contributed 24. Rinku Singh (83* off 51 balls, 5 sixes, 7 fours) turned the game with four consecutive sixes in the final over of Kolkata’s innings, which ultimately proved decisive. Vaibhav Arora and Varun Chakravarthy picked up two wickets each. Lucknow pacer Mohsin Khan’s brilliant spell (4-1-23-5) went in vain.

Kolkata’s Rovman Powell suffered an injury while taking a diving catch of Mitchell Marsh, who managed just two runs. Marsh was caught off Vaibhav Arora’s delivery.
Record Five-Wicket Haul by ₹4 Crore Mohsin
After being put in to bat, Kolkata posted 155/7 in 20 overs. They lost an early wicket in the second over as opener Tim Seifert (0) was caught by Mukesh Choudhary at extra cover off Mohsin Khan.
Left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan, representing Lucknow Super Giants, delivered a sensational spell at his home ground, putting Kolkata under immense pressure. Five of Kolkata’s six wickets for 77 runs in the first 12 overs were taken by Mohsin. He became the first bowler in this IPL season to take a five-wicket haul in a match. The 27-year-old has been playing for Lucknow since 2022 and was retained for ₹4 crore for the 2026 season.
Raghuvanshi Given Out for Obstructing the Ball
Kolkata’s third wicket fell in controversial fashion as Angkrish Raghuvanshi was given out for ‘obstructing the ball’. During an over by Prince Yadav, Raghuvanshi pushed the ball towards mid-on and attempted a run but was sent back by Cameron Green.
While diving back to the crease, he obstructed a throw from Mohammed Shami, which struck his body. Lucknow appealed, claiming Raghuvanshi intentionally blocked the throw. Despite his arguments, third umpire Ronak Pandit ruled him out. A frustrated Raghuvanshi threw his helmet down, while Kolkata head coach Abhishek Nayar was seen arguing with the fourth umpire.
Apart from Cameron Green (34, including three sixes), none of the other Kolkata batters — Rahane, Seifert, Raghuvanshi, Powell — managed to reach double figures.
Rinku’s Four Sixes in Four Balls Power Kolkata to 155/7

Kolkata struggled overall with the bat against Lucknow, but in the final over bowled by spinner Digvesh Rathi, Rinku Singh (83* off 51 balls) lit up the stadium. After two wides at the start of the over, he smashed four consecutive sixes off the next four balls, thrilling thousands of spectators. Rinku was at his very best on Sunday.
