
Ahmedabad : A total of 938 forms have been withdrawn in the local body elections to be held in Gujarat on April 26, 2026. With this, a total of 27,297 candidates are now going to contest the local body elections. The last day to file nomination forms was Saturday. However, the names of the candidates were not announced by various political parties until the last minute.
Meanwhile, late on Friday night and on the last day, there was a huge crowd in the offices across the state as candidates given direct mandates came to file their forms, and there were even film scenes of scuffles between workers of various political parties. The date for the withdrawal of this candidature was April 15 and the time was till 3 pm.
There is a battle between 3508 candidates in the municipal corporation, 6104 in the municipality, 3226 in the district panchayat and 14,459 in the taluka panchayat in the state. Thus, a total of 27,297 candidates have contested the local local body elections.
Elections to 15 Mahanagar Palika, 84 Nagar Palika, 34 Zilla Panchayats and 260 Taluka Panchayats as well as by-elections to 13 vacant seats in 11 Municipal Corporation will be held in the state on April 26. The counting of votes for this election will be conducted on April 28, 2026.
