Muslim leaders Meet Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, Demands Action After Attack On Anti-Drug Activist

Mumbai: In a significant development reported by the Free Press Journal, prominent members of the All India Sunni Jamiyatul Ulama met Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti to demand strict action following an assault on an anti-drug activist.

According to the report, the delegation raised serious concerns over the attack on Sayed Khalid Ashraf, a religious figure actively involved in campaigns aimed at discouraging drug use among youth. The leaders emphasized that the incident is not just an isolated act of violence but a threat to broader efforts to combat substance abuse in society. IANS also highlighted the urgency expressed during the meeting.

The group, led by Sayed Moinuddin Ashraf and Mohammed Saeed Noori, submitted a formal representation to the police commissioner outlining their demands. They called for immediate identification and arrest of those responsible, along with strong legal action against individuals linked to drug trafficking.

The delegation pointed out that Sayed Khalid Ashraf has been consistently working to guide young people away from narcotics and promote healthier lifestyles. However, his efforts have allegedly made him a target of individuals involved in illegal drug activities.

During the meeting, the leaders stressed the importance of ensuring safety for social and religious figures engaged in anti-drug initiatives. They urged the police to not only investigate the attack thoroughly but also strengthen measures to curb the operations of drug peddlers in the city.

The appeal reflects growing concern within the community about the risks faced by those working against narcotics and the need for decisive law enforcement action to maintain public safety and support reform initiatives.
