Railways Clears Bengaluru–Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, Launch Timeline Awaited

The proposed Vande Bharat sleeper train service connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai has received approval from the Railways, with the detailed timetable expected to be released shortly, The Times of India reported. The move marks a significant step toward enhancing long-distance overnight travel between the two major cities.

According to The Times of India, the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train is designed to provide improved comfort for passengers travelling overnight, combining speed with upgraded onboard amenities. The service is expected to reduce travel time compared to conventional trains currently operating on the route.

Railway officials indicated that operational planning is underway, including finalising stoppages, departure timings, and frequency. Once these details are completed, the full schedule will be made public. The introduction of the sleeper variant is part of Indian Railways’ broader strategy to modernise its fleet and expand premium train services across key routes.

As per The Times of India, the Bengaluru–Mumbai corridor has witnessed growing passenger demand, making it a strong candidate for the new service. The sleeper train is likely to cater to both business and leisure travellers seeking faster and more comfortable overnight journeys.

The Vande Bharat platform, already known for its chair car services on shorter routes, is being adapted to suit long-distance travel needs. Officials noted that the sleeper trains will feature redesigned coaches with berths and enhanced facilities.

While the exact launch date has not yet been confirmed, railway authorities suggested that the rollout could take place soon after operational clearances are finalised. Further announcements are expected in the coming weeks, The Times of India added.
