Veteran Singer Asha Bhosle Hospitalised In Mumbai

Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle, aged 92, was admitted to Mumbai’s upscale Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday, according to sources. The icon behind unforgettable tracks such as Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Jaiye Aap Kahan Jayenge, Rangeela Re, and Sharara Sharara is reportedly receiving treatment for extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. She is set to celebrate her 93rd birthday on September 8, 2026.

Her granddaughter, singer Zanai Bhosle, addressed the situation publicly on her X account, confirming the admission while appealing for privacy. “My grandmother, Asha Bhosle due to extreme exhaustion and suffering a chest infection has been admitted to hospital and we request you to value our privacy. Treatment is ongoing and hopefully everything will be well and we shall update you positively,” Zanai wrote.

Breach Candy Hospital, a premium private facility in South Mumbai known for its advanced care, often involves substantial expenses for extended treatment, monitoring, and specialist services—raising questions about the financial implications for even celebrated artists facing health setbacks at an advanced age. While family statements have not detailed specific costs, private hospitalisation of this nature in India frequently entails significant medical bills, including emergency care, diagnostics, and ongoing management.

Asha Bhosle began her illustrious career in 1943 with her first film song, Chala Chala Nav Bala, for the Marathi movie Majha Bal. Initially recognised for energetic numbers, she later demonstrated remarkable versatility through ghazals like Dil Cheez Kya Hai and classical renditions such as Tora Man Darpan Kehlaye. Her enduring passion for music was evident when, at 90, she performed a live concert in Dubai rather than hosting a private celebration, telling PTI that music remained her “breath” and helped her overcome difficult periods.

In 2024, she captivated audiences again by performing Karan Aujla’s hit Tauba Tauba at a Dubai show, even replicating its popular dance steps. The singer maintains an active social media presence, with over 4.2 million followers on X, where her bio simply states “Singer since 1943.” She has a substantial following on Instagram and Facebook as well.

A two-time National Film Award winner, Asha Bhosle was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. As treatment continues at the hospital, fans and the entertainment industry await positive updates on the legendary artist’s recovery.
