After Zomato, Swiggy Raises Platform Fee by 17%
New Delhi: In a fresh blow to budget-conscious customers, Swiggy has increased its platform fee shortly after rival Zomato did the same, pushing up the cost of ordering food online.
According to details reported by NDTV Profit, Swiggy has hiked its platform fee by 17 per cent — from Rs 14.99 to Rs 17.58 per order, inclusive of GST. The new charge now aligns closely with Zomato’s revised fee, which also stands at around Rs 17.58.
Swiggy notified users that the increase is aimed at helping the company “operate and maintain the Swiggy platform.” This marks the latest adjustment by the food delivery major, following its previous 20 per cent hike in September last year that had taken the fee to Rs 14.99.
The development comes just days after Zomato raised its platform fee by 19 per cent. Zomato’s hike effectively added about Rs 2 to each delivery order.
With both major players — Swiggy and Zomato — now charging nearly identical platform fees of approximately Rs 17.58 (including GST), food delivery has become noticeably more expensive for users across the country.
The timing of these successive hikes coincides with heightened inflation concerns and the ongoing state elections in West Bengal.

Neither company has provided further public comments on the latest changes beyond the standard notification to users. The platform fee is charged on top of the food cost, delivery charges, and any other applicable taxes or restaurant commissions.
Customers have already begun noticing the difference in their final bill amounts when placing orders on both apps. Industry observers note that such incremental fee adjustments have become a recurring strategy for these platforms to support operational costs amid competitive pressures and rising expenses.
