Dhurandhar AI Poster Sparks Sikh Community Outrage, Complaint Filed Against Makers And Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge has been pulling strong numbers at the box office since its March 19 release, but the film has also drawn an unexpected controversy one that, as it turns out, may have little to do with the film itself.

A written complaint was filed at Mumbai’s Mulund Police Station alleging that a poster associated with the film has hurt Sikh religious sentiments. The complaint was submitted by Sardar Gurjyot Singh, president of ‘Sikhs in Maharashtra’, who flagged a circulating poster showing a character in traditional Sikh attire turban, long beard, and a kara holding a cigarette.

The organisation argues the depiction violates the Sikh code of conduct and disrespects Guru Gobind Singh. In Sikh tradition, tobacco is classified as a Bajjar Kurehit among the gravest violations of religious conduct. The group has demanded the poster’s removal from all platforms, suspension of the film’s screenings until corrective action is taken, and legal proceedings against the director, producers, and lead actor.

The controversy picked up steam after Paramjit Singh Sarna posted about it on X, writing that the poster from a supposed song titled ‘Pralay’ depicted “a turbaned Sikh character holding a cigarette,” calling it “a blatant misrepresentation of Sikh identity.” He urged authorities to direct the makers to remove or correct the imagery, describing it as an attack on Sikh sentiments before a global audience.

The post spread quickly but it also prompted a closer look. Users online pointed out that the poster is not official. It appears to be fan-made using AI tools, and the film does not feature any song called ‘Pralay’.

So the poster at the centre of the complaint is AI-generated and not part of the actual film. Despite this, the complaint names the film, its makers, and its lead actor. The production team has not issued any statement on the matter so far.
