Palam Building Fire: 7 Family Members, Including 3 Children, Perish In Southwest Delhi Blaze

A catastrophic fire ripped through a multi-storey residential building in Southwest Delhi’s Palam area on Wednesday morning, claiming the lives of seven family members. According to reports from Livemint and the Press Trust of India (PTI), the victims include three children who were trapped as flames engulfed the structure near Shri Ram Chowk.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received an emergency call at approximately 7:00 AM. In response, a massive operation was launched involving 30 fire tenders. Firefighters arriving at the scene found thick black smoke billowing from a five-storey building that featured a mixed-use layout. The basement, ground, and first floors were utilized as commercial storage for cosmetics and garments, while the second and third floors served as residential quarters for the affected family.

Desperate to escape the inferno, two individuals jumped from the upper floors and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital for their injuries. The DFS successfully pulled seven unconscious individuals from the building, but they were tragically declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sadhu expressed his profound distress over the incident, confirming that rescue and firefighting operations were being monitored closely to provide all necessary assistance to the victims’ relatives.

Additionally, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta announced a magisterial inquiry into the cause of the blaze, which remains under investigation. While the fire has been brought under control, cooling and search operations continue within the smoke-logged premises to ensure no other occupants remain trapped.
