Mumbai Weather: Unseasonal Rains Loom Over Maharashtra

Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts across Maharashtra, warning of rain accompanied by thunderstorms over the coming days.

According to the IMD’s district forecast, areas including Sholapur, Parbhani, Latur, Dharashiv and Chandrapur are expected to receive heavy rain in the near term. Light to moderate rainfall along with thundershowers, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places on Monday in these regions.

Additionally, Dhule, Nandurbar, Nashik and the ghat areas of Nashik have been placed under a yellow alert for Monday and the rest of the week. The weather agency has forecast unseasonal showers in parts of the state during this period.

While rain is anticipated in these pockets, many parts of Maharashtra continued to experience above-normal temperatures on Monday. Interior districts remained especially warm, with Malegaon recording the highest maximum of 39.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Jeur at 39.5 degrees Celsius and Sholapur at 39.0 degrees Celsius. Parbhani saw 38.8 degrees Celsius, and Osmanabad registered 38.4 degrees Celsius, indicating warmer-than-usual conditions across central Maharashtra.

In contrast, the hill station of Mahabaleshwar remained the coolest among listed stations with a maximum temperature of 29.2 degrees Celsius.

In Mumbai, temperatures were relatively moderate. The Colaba observatory recorded a maximum of 33.2 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal, while Santacruz reported 31.9 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures, however, stayed above normal, with Colaba at 25.5 degrees Celsius and Santacruz at 23.0 degrees Celsius, pointing to warm nights.

Other parts of the state also logged elevated readings: Aurangabad at 37.2 degrees Celsius, Jalgaon at 37.0 degrees Celsius, Satara at 36.7 degrees Celsius and Sangli at 36.3 degrees Celsius.

Humidity levels differed notably across regions. Coastal stations such as Dahanu and Mumbai recorded high morning humidity of 88 per cent and 89 per cent respectively, whereas interior areas like Aurangabad saw comparatively lower levels.

The state thus presented a picture of contrasting weather — unseasonal rain and thunderstorms in select districts alongside persistent heat in the interiors.

Meanwhile, Mumbai’s air quality remained satisfactory with an AQI of 79 on Monday, an improvement from recent days, as per the SAMEER app. Haze was observed in the morning, but skies were expected to stay mainly clear during the afternoon and evening. AQI readings across various city areas ranged from satisfactory to moderate, with most stations between 79 and 97.
