Mumbai : Air travel between India and the Gulf is slowly restarting amid the ongoing Iran-Israel war, but services remain far from normal. Several airlines including Air India and IndiGo have announced limited Middle East flights on March 7. The disruption began after multiple countries in West Asia closed their airspace due to the conflict, triggering widespread flight cancellations and leaving thousands of travellers stranded.
Authorities and airlines have warned that schedules may continue to change depending on security conditions across the region. Air India and Air India Express flights to the Middle East will operate around 50 services on March 7, connecting India with six cities: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Jeddah, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah. The services include both scheduled and additional flights arranged after airspace over Saudi Arabia and Oman reopened, enabling partial resumption of operations.
The airline said the additional flights are meant to assist passengers stranded in the region during the conflict. To support guests stranded in the region, both airlines are operating additional non-scheduled commercial flights on 7 March with necessary clearances from Indian and local authorities. India’s largest airline IndiGo has also announced a limited restart of Middle East flights, operating services to five destinations in the region on March 7.
The disruption remains severe. IndiGo has cancelled 144 international flights scheduled for March 7 due to airspace restrictions across the region. Not all airlines have restarted services yet. Qatar Airways has temporarily suspended scheduled flights until authorities reopen Qatari airspace.
