AAIB Denies Final Findings On Air India Flight AI-171 Crash, Calls Reports ‘Incorrect And Speculative’

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has categorically refuted media reports indicating that the final investigation findings into the Air India Flight AI-171 crash have been determined, terming such assertions “incorrect and speculative.” The aviation accident investigation agency issued a clarification on Thursday, stating that the inquiry remains in progress and definitive conclusions are yet to be drawn.

According to the statement released by the AAIB, the preliminary report issued previously encompassed solely factual data that was accessible during the initial phase of the investigation. The bureau clarified that the final investigation report, which will incorporate conclusions along with safety recommendations, will be made public only after the completion of the probe, adhering to internationally recognised procedures.

The agency highlighted that it is carrying out the investigation in strict compliance with the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2025, and India’s commitments under ICAO Annex 13, the international framework that sets standards for aircraft accident investigations.

Stressing that such investigations are technical and evidence-driven undertakings, the AAIB stated that the purpose of the inquiry is to identify underlying causes and improve aviation safety standards, rather than to assign blame prematurely. The bureau appealed to the media to demonstrate restraint and refrain from premature conjecture, cautioning that unconfirmed reports could trigger unwarranted public concern and compromise the credibility of the professional investigation currently underway.

The AAIB reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining transparency, upholding procedural standards, and ensuring the highest levels of aviation safety.
