Lamborghini Accident : Kanpur Tobacco Businessman’s Son Arrested, Cops Say He Was Driving

New Delhi : Four days after crashing his Lamborghini in Kanpur, tobacco tycoon KK Mishra’s son, Shivam Mishra, was arrested on Thursday. DCP Central Kanpur Atul Kumar Srivastava said police had received specific inputs about his presence in the city following which five teams were constituted to track him down.

Shivam was taken for a routine medical checkup before being presented before the court. Visuals which surfaced shortly after Shivam’s arrest showed him limping and leaning on police personnel and others for support as he was escorted for the medical check-up. During court hearing, the officials said that Shivam was arrested for non co-operation in the investigation and evading police.

The case took a dramatic turn a day earlier when a man identified as Mohan, claiming to be the designated driver, said he and not Shivam was behind the wheel at the time of the crash”. Speaking to reporters outside a court, Mohan alleged that Shivam, seated beside him, suffered a sudden seizure moments before the impact. I was driving when he suddenly collapsed on me. I panicked and tried to hold him with one hand. The car first hit a three-wheeler, climbed the divider and then stopped,” Mohan said. He also claimed the vehicle’s automatic locking system delayed his exit, after which he shifted Shivam to the driver’s seat and stepped out.

Mohan’s lawyer moved a surrender application before the court, and he appeared on Wednesday to formally surrender. However, the Gwaltoli police, in their report, did not name him as an accused. Taking note of the police stand, the court refused to accept his surrender and sought a detailed report from the local police station. Police said the evidence pointed squarely at Shivam. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts and other material show Shivam was driving when the Lamborghini rammed into people and vehicles.

Initially, the FIR was registered against an unidentified driver but was later amended to name Shivam as the accused. The supercar has been seized for forensic examination. The defence has also claimed that the complainant no longer wants to pursue the case. Shivam’s lawyer, Dharmendra Singh, said Taufeeq had reached a mutual settlement and did not wish to initiate legal action. He further alleged that Mohan was driving and paid compensation for the victim’s medical treatment and losses.

Taufeeq was called to the Gwaltoli police station on the day of the crash itself, where a written settlement was signed in the presence of then station house officer Santosh Kumar Gaur. The SHO was later removed from charge and sent to lines, though senior officials declined to comment on the alleged settlement. According to KK Mishra, Shivam began losing consciousness while returning from Civil Lines, after which the driver slowed down and an autorickshaw struck the car.
