Sharad Pawar’s Health Steadily Improving, Discharge Soon

Veteran NCP (SP) leader Sharad Pawar is making a steady recovery after being admitted to Pune’s Ruby Hall Clinic and is likely to be discharged within the next two days, according to the medical team treating him.
The 85-year-old Rajya Sabha MP and former Union minister was brought to the hospital on Monday afternoon, February 9, 2026, following complaints of breathing difficulties and a persistent cough. He was shifted from his residence in Baramati, Pune district, where doctors identified a chest infection with associated congestion.
On Wednesday, Dr. Simon Grant, physician and trustee at Ruby Hall Clinic, provided an official update confirming that Pawar’s condition is stable. All vital parameters are within normal limits, and his clinical status is described as reassuring. The chest congestion present on admission has shown a good response to treatment, with progress described as smooth and consistent.
Dr. Grant explained that the illness was primarily triggered by physical exhaustion and fatigue, resulting from Pawar’s intense recent schedule of extensive travel and multiple public engagements. “Mr. Pawar continues to demonstrate consistent improvement under close medical supervision,” the doctor stated. “Subject to sustained recovery, the team anticipates discharging him in the next two days.”
Pawar, a towering figure in Indian politics and a survivor of oral cancer, has also been dealing with the emotional impact of the January 28, 2026 air crash that killed his nephew, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
On the day of admission, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar (Ajit Pawar’s wife) and son Parth Pawar visited the hospital to check on the senior leader’s condition.
As reported , the latest medical assessment from Ruby Hall Clinic indicates a positive trajectory with no reported complications. The focus now remains on completing the treatment course and ensuring a smooth discharge in the coming days.
