10 Dead In Devastating Shooting At British Columbia High School
A tragic mass shooting at a remote British Columbia high school has claimed 10 lives, including the suspected perpetrator, while leaving approximately two dozen others injured, according to the latest updates from authorities.
The incident occurred on February 10, 2026, at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in the small northeastern community of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, which has a population of about 2,400. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) responded to reports of an active shooter at approximately 1:20 p.m. local time.
RCMP officials confirmed that the suspect was located deceased inside the school, with evidence indicating a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities stated there is no ongoing threat to public safety, and the related Police Initiated Public Alert was cancelled by late afternoon.
Investigators reported that six victims were found deceased inside the school building, one individual died while being transported to medical care, and two additional fatalities occurred at a separate residence in the community. Around 27 people sustained injuries and required treatment.
The Peace River South School District placed both Tumbler Ridge Secondary School—serving roughly 175 students in grades 7 through 12—and the nearby elementary school under lockdown and “secure and hold” measures during the response.

Residents were instructed to remain indoors and secure their homes as reinforcements, including additional RCMP officers and air ambulance support from neighbouring regions such as Alberta, were rushed to the scene.
Larry Neufeld, the MLA for Peace River South, acknowledged the deployment of substantial emergency resources but withheld further specifics to avoid interfering with the active investigation.
