Ahmedabad: Gujarat has been experiencing intensifying cold conditions over the past 24 hours. Under the influence of a severe cold wave affecting North and Northwest India, minimum temperatures have dropped significantly across various cities in the state. Naliya in Kutch recorded the lowest temperature at 6.4 degrees Celsius, emerging as the coldest location in Gujarat. Meanwhile, Amreli registered 8.4 degrees and Rajkot saw 10 degrees, with residents across Saurashtra-Kutch enduring freezing conditions. Temperature readings have plummeted in other parts of the state as well, with Ahmedabad recording 12.1 degrees, Gandhinagar 10.5 degrees, and Bhuj 10.2 degrees Celsius.
Freezing Conditions Across North India
Northern India is currently in the grip of dense fog and extreme cold. Temperatures in hilly states have fallen below zero, directly impacting the plains. According to the meteorological department, cold wave conditions and fog will persist across North and West India until January 17. Delhi experienced its coldest morning of the season on Saturday, prompting authorities to issue a two-day ‘Yellow Alert’. Rajasthan and Bihar are also facing ‘Cold Day’ conditions.

What About Maharashtra’s Weather?
Significant weather changes are being observed in Maharashtra and surrounding regions. Pressure systems forming over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal may cause fluctuations in Maharashtra’s weather patterns in the coming days. However, with northerly winds currently inactive, the state is experiencing minimal impact from the intense cold wave. Nevertheless, cold conditions are forecast to continue in Mumbai and other areas until the end of January. Meteorological forecasts indicate no major temperature changes are expected over the next 48 hours, though a subsequent rise of 2-3 degrees could bring partial relief from the cold thereafter.
