Deadly Midair Helicopter Collision Claims One Life in New Jersey

Hammonton — A midair collision between two helicopters in southern New Jersey on Sunday resulted in one fatality and left another individual with critical injuries, according to authorities.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the incident involved an Enstrom F-28A and an Enstrom 280C helicopter, which collided near Hammonton Municipal Airport around 11:25 a.m.
Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel stated that emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after reports of an aviation incident. Police and fire crews worked to extinguish flames that had fully engulfed one of the aircraft. Video footage captured from the area depicted one helicopter spiraling uncontrollably toward the ground.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was rushed to a nearby hospital facing life-threatening injuries. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been informed and are leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.

Witness accounts and affiliate footage from stations such as WPVI described wreckage scattered across a field, including mangled metal, charred remains, and debris from the impacted helicopters.
The NTSB has indicated that after documenting the site, the wreckage will be transported to a secure location for detailed examination.
This incident marks a tragic event in the region, prompting federal scrutiny into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
