Indian Railways Deploys 89 Emergency Trains to Amid IndiGo flights cancellation

New Delhi: In response to the ongoing chaos from IndiGo’s extensive flight disruptions, Indian Railways has swiftly introduced 89 special trains across its zones, set to run over the next three days beginning Saturday. This rapid deployment aims to provide relief to countless passengers left in limbo by the airline’s cancellations.
The initiative, orchestrated by the Railway Ministry, followed a quick assessment of rail traffic patterns in key urban centers including New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Patna, and Howrah. These additional services are projected to complete more than 100 journeys in total. “The tally of special trains and their runs could expand based on evolving demand. Instructions have gone out to all zones to leverage every available asset, from rolling stock to personnel, ensuring secure operations for the benefit of hundreds of thousands of travelers marooned nationwide owing to the airline issues,” stated Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information & Publicity at the Railway Board.

Railway authorities are prioritizing outreach to inform affected individuals, with some regional divisions posting updates directly at adjacent airports. For instance, the South Eastern Railway released a statement and coordinated with the Airport Authority of India to publicize the new timetables on-site. On the Western Railway front, seven extra trains will operate on reduced fares, connecting Mumbai Central to New Delhi, Bhiwani, and Shakur Basti; Bandra Terminus to Durgapura; Valsad to Bilaspur; and Sabarmati to Delhi and Delhi Sarai Rohilla.
The South Central Railway, meanwhile, confirmed four new trains to accommodate the influx of rerouted flyers. Central Railway has lined up 14 such services, while Northern Railway is preparing 10, with both figures under ongoing evaluation for potential increases. Notifications detailing routes and timings have been circulated by other zones as well.
IndiGo’s operational troubles have persisted for a minimum of five consecutive days, marked by substantial cancellations, delays, and instances of lost luggage, inflicting considerable inconvenience on thousands of passengers across the country.
