Putin’s India Visit : India Should Work To Get S-500 System Says Patna-Born Russian MLA Abhay Singh
Patna : Patna-born Russian legislator Abhay Singh has said that he wanted India to push for the S-500 air-defence system as President Vladimir Putin is all set to arrive in Delhi for the 23rd India-Russia annual summit on Thursday. S-400 is a very good missile system. But the S-500 is the latest technology, and it is being used in Russia only.
Russia is not giving it to any other country. If Russia decides to supply it to India, India will become the first country to get it. Even China hasn’t got this system. I think India should work to get the S-500 missile system. It will be a great achievement for India. His pitch came ahead of a visit loaded with strategic weight. Putin will be in India after a four-year gap — a period shaped by the Ukraine war, India’s heavy purchases of discounted Russian oil, and friction with the United States over those imports.
The December 4–5 summit is expected to cover defence cooperation, joint technology, nuclear projects, trade, agriculture and India’s effort to maintain diplomatic balance between Moscow and Washington. Singh said Putin’s visit has generated widespread attention and excitement not only in India but also in Russia, adding that it is likely to produce “a very good strategic partnership between the two countries.
Discussions may cover advanced fighter collaboration such as the Su-57, next-generation air-defence systems, agriculture, technology exchanges and a possible framework for work permits for Indians seeking employment in Russia. Such agreements, he said, would offer “mutual benefits” and further tighten bilateral ties. Singh also highlighted Russia’s emerging openness to Indian skilled and semi-skilled workers at a time when, he claimed, Western countries — “particularly the United States” — are making it harder for Indians to stay long-term.
The shortage affects various sectors and skill tiers, and the need extends to both white-collar and blue-collar roles,” he said, urging Indians to explore opportunities there. Reflecting on his own political journey, Singh said President Putin inspired him, but he relied on Indian-style grassroots campaigning to win over local voters in the Kursk region. In some states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, even school kids discuss and understand politics. I was inspired by President Putin and joined his party.
