New Delhi : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday informed that it has arrested a Faridabad resident for allegedly harbouring terrorist Dr Umar Un Nabi, the man who drove the explosive-laden car that blasted outside Delhi’s Red Fort on November 10, killing 14 people and injuring many others. Dr Umar was part of a ‘white-collar’ terror module busted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Several of his associates from Al-Falah University in Faridabad: Shaheen Saeed, Muzammil Shakeel and Adeel Rather are already in custody.
According to the statement issued by the agency, Soyab, a resident of Faridabad’s Dhauj, is the seventh person arrested in the case. Investigators have found that Soyab worked as a ward boy at Al-Falah University and knew Dr Umar and Mujammil. Investigators said he would routinely take patients from Mewat to Dr Umar and Mujammil, which kept him in regular contact with them. They added that he arranged for Umar to stay at his sister-in-law’s house in Nuh and later provided shelter at other locations as well.
The agency continues to pursue various leads in connection with the suicide bombing, and has been conducting searches across states in coordination with the respective police forces in a bid to identify and track others involved in the gruesome attack,” the official spokesperson for the National Investigation Agency said in a statement. Investigators said the seizure revealed a white-collar network associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed operating across Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The agency had earlier arrested six associates of Dr Umar during the course of the investigation. The agency continues to conduct searches in multiple states in coordination with state police forces to identify and trace other persons linked to the case.
