New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has determined that the Red Fort area explosion was executed using a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device driven by suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi, marking a significant development in the case following the arrest of his suspected accomplice.
The agency has taken into custody Amir Rashid Ali, a Pampore resident from Samboora in Jammu and Kashmir, who allegedly collaborated with the bomber in planning the November 10 attack that left 13 dead and over 30 wounded. Officials report that the vehicle deployed in the explosion was registered under Amir’s name, and he had journeyed to Delhi to assist with acquiring the car before it was converted into a vehicle-borne IED.
Through forensic analysis, authorities have positively identified the deceased driver as Umar Un Nabi, who served as an Assistant Professor in General Medicine at Al Falah University in Faridabad and hailed from Pulwama district. The NIA has additionally confiscated another vehicle owned by Nabi, which is currently undergoing forensic scrutiny.
On Sunday, the NIA released four people, including three medical professionals, who had been held in connection with the Delhi Red Fort explosion after investigators found insufficient evidence linking them to primary suspect Dr Umar Un Nabi, according to official sources.
Those released Dr Rehan, Dr Mohammad, Dr Mustaqeem, and fertiliser vendor Dinesh Singla had been apprehended in Haryana’s Nuh over recent days. The doctors had prior contact with Umar and maintained ties to Al-Falah University, an institution connected to terrorism-related activities. Investigators also examined whether explosive materials had been obtained through any fertiliser supplier.
The agency has questioned 73 witnesses to date, including multiple blast victims, while coordinating closely with Delhi Police, Jammu & Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, and additional law enforcement bodies. Investigators are pursuing various leads across multiple states to expose the broader conspiracy and identify all parties connected to the assault.
