Mumbai Police: 800 Lost and Stolen Phones Reunited with Owners in Heartwarming Diwali Gesture

Mumbai– In a touching nod to the spirit of Diwali, Mumbai Police has restored smiles to hundreds of residents by returning 800 recovered mobile phones to their legitimate owners, dubbing the effort a “special Diwali return gift.”

The handover, organized under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 6, formed part of an ongoing drive to recover and redistribute misplaced and pilfered items across the city. As fireworks lit up Mumbai’s skyline and homes brimmed with traditional lamps, the ceremony unfolded at a local venue, where grateful citizens reclaimed devices that held cherished memories, contacts, and personal data.

The Mumbai Police’s official Instagram account captured the moment in a post that read: “A Special Diwali Return Gift. Ringing happiness in the lives of Mumbaikars, DCP Zone 6 as part of a dedicated campaign to trace and return lost and stolen goods, handed over recovered valuables to their rightful owners today. In a special ceremony, 800 mobile phones recovered by police stations under the jurisdiction of Zone 6 were returned to their owners.”

Accompanying images depicted uniformed officers presenting the phones amid scenes of relief and elation, with recipients clutching their devices tightly. One photo showed a young woman beaming as she accepted her gadget, while another highlighted an elderly man nodding in appreciation to the officers.

The initiative quickly resonated online, amassing more than 2,000 likes and a cascade of positive feedback. Social media users lauded the force’s compassion, with one commenter stating, “Salute to our brave heroes.” Another, still holding out hope for their own lost item, wrote, “Still, I’m in hope. It’s been a month now.” A particularly poignant response came from someone who had lost a phone purchased with their first paycheck: “I lost my phone a few months back and reported it. I bought it with my first salary, and I still can’t get over it. By the way, Happy Diwali.”
