Mumbai Braces for Rain and Gusty Winds Today

Mumbai – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted moderate rainfall across Mumbai and its suburbs on Thursday, August 21, 2025, with the possibility of gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph. The city is expected to experience generally cloudy skies throughout the day, accompanied by intermittent showers, according to the weather agency’s latest bulletin.
The IMD has indicated that maximum temperatures will likely hover around 30°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to settle near 26°C. The forecast also highlights the potential for heavy rainfall in isolated areas, prompting local authorities to advise residents to remain cautious, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone zones.
A high tide of approximately 4.24 meters is anticipated at 1:26 pm, followed by a low tide of 1.22 meters at 7:24 pm, as reported by the IMD. Residents near coastal areas have been urged to exercise vigilance due to the combination of high tides and gusty winds, which could lead to localized disruptions.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has assured the public that it is prepared to handle any weather-related challenges. BMC officials have deployed teams to monitor vulnerable areas and ensure drainage systems are clear to mitigate flooding risks. Commuters are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and plan their travel accordingly, as road and rail disruptions remain a possibility during heavy rain.
The IMD’s regional center in Mumbai emphasized that the current weather pattern is influenced by a cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea, contributing to the active monsoon conditions. While the rainfall is expected to be moderate, the agency has not ruled out brief periods of intense showers in certain pockets of the city.
Residents are encouraged to follow updates from the IMD and BMC for real-time information. The forecast suggests that Mumbai’s weather will remain dynamic, with cloudy skies and periodic rain continuing to dominate the region’s conditions.
