Intruder Breaches Parliament Security by Scaling Wall

NEW DELHI: An unidentified man infiltrated the Parliament complex early Friday morning, August 22, 2025, by climbing a tree and scaling a wall near Rail Bhawan, raising fresh concerns about security at one of India’s most protected government sites. The breach occurred around 6:30 am, with the intruder reaching the Garuda Gate of the new Parliament building before being apprehended by security personnel, according to official sources cited.

The incident, reported by News18, prompted a swift response from Parliament’s security team, who detained the man before he could advance further. He is now in custody, and authorities are interrogating him to establish his identity, motive, and how he bypassed multiple security layers. CCTV footage is under review to investigate the breach, as confirmed by a senior Delhi Police officer. Initial findings suggest no incriminating items were found on the suspect during frisking.

This incident follows a similar breach in 2024, when a man in his 20s entered the Parliament Annexe building, and a high-profile 2023 incident where two individuals jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery, releasing yellow smoke canisters. Friday’s breach, occurring just a day after the monsoon session of Parliament concluded on August 21, 2025, has intensified scrutiny on the complex’s security measures.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for internal security, and Delhi Police, tasked with external safety, are conducting a thorough investigation. Authorities aim to identify any vulnerabilities in surveillance or response protocols to prevent future incidents. The breach has sparked renewed discussions about the adequacy of security arrangements at the Parliament complex, especially given its symbolic and strategic importance.
