Monsoon Regains Strength in Gujarat: Rainfall Recorded in 142 District

Ahmedabad: The monsoon has become active again in Gujarat, bringing widespread showers across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), four rain-bearing systems are currently active, leading to a forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall until August 19. The department has issued an orange alert between August 18 and 20, warning that rainfall activity will intensify further from Sunday. Fishermen have also been advised not to venture into the sea until August 20 due to rough conditions.
Rainfall Distribution Across the State
By 6 pm on Saturday, 142 District in Gujarat reported rainfall. The heaviest showers were recorded in Ranpur (Botad district) with 2.24 inches, followed by Kheda (2.20 inches), Dasada (2.17 inches), Una (2.09 inches), and Limbdi (2.01 inches). In total, five district recorded over 2 inches of rainfall, 23 district received more than 1 inch, while rainfall in 114 district remained below 1 inch.
Seasonal Rainfall and Water Storage
So far, the state has received 65.67% of its average seasonal rainfall. Region-wise, South Gujarat recorded the highest at 70.11%, followed by East-Central Gujarat (67.46%), North Gujarat (66.89%), Kutch (65.46%), and Saurashtra (58.32%).
In terms of water storage, the Sardar Sarovar Dam is at 75.11% capacity, while 206 reservoirs across the state hold about 70.59% of their combined storage capacity. However, 32 reservoirs remain below 25% capacity, despite overall good rainfall this monsoon. Meanwhile, 51 dams in the state are currently under high alert due to rising water levels.
